6 ways to dress professionally or during business functions

The State of the Nation Address or more commonly known as SONA of the newly elected President of the Philippines, President Rodrigo Duterte, made headlines in the recent weeks. While the new administration’s programs and promises were the favorite topics of discussions, some fashionistas did not let the event pass by without scrutinizing the best (and worst) dressed – in business attire.

Which led many people to ask, how do you dress professionally or during business functions?

Whether your office is the laidback-casual kind or the coat-formal type, it does not hurt to dress it up a few notches higher than usual. Find out how to rock those 9-5 outfits like what the VIP’s did last SONA.

[1] The Classic

Regardless of the job, the classic look is probably the most usual and easiest way to dress up for office. However, this is also the most prone to looking boring, unless you remember this one tip: Always wear a statement piece, or just add a fun item to your look (shoes, bag, jewelry, watch, lips and nails). Just like what they say, it’s all in the details.

[2] Casual business

This look, or what others may tag as the jeans-to-work outfit, is actually pretty easy to pull off plus it is also very versatile. The key is to always wear heels, a very smart/feminine top (silky or sheer blouse, structured pieces), a blazer, and a professional bag. If your office permits, you may play with accessories to give your outfit an added boost.

[3] Careless chic

Careless chic

As the name suggests, careless chic is perfect for those who have taste for fashion but look as if they don’t give a crap. In Filipino, it’s like “simpleng dating”. The tip is to learn how to clash different styles and play with various shapes and looks. Think crossover between feminine and masculine. Heels look best with this look, but oxfords may do the trick as well.

[4] Glam girl

Glam girl is a look for all the sexy women who rule the world, and would rather do it in bright lips, sky-high heels, and outfits that can go from 9 a.m. to late dinner cocktails. The key is always in the posh fabulous heels – bad shoes can ruin even the most gorgeous outfit. But apart from the heels, glam girls also love expensive perfumes, rich fabrics, pencil skirts, silky blouses, long trousers, statement golden necklaces, brand watches, and massive bags or clutches. These ladies are not afraid to flaunt it all.

[5] Simple and feminine

For women who love flowy skirts, flirty dresses, and smart casual outfits, this style is the perfect one. There’s just one important thing to remember when opting for this look: Check the hem. Always wear knee-length or over-the-knee dresses or skirts in any color or print, cringed at the waist, and paired with smart blazers. This way, it won’t look too causal for office. Shoes-wise, heels look better but you can also don ballet flats.

[6] Edgy

Edgy

The edgy look is not for the weak-hearted ones, nor for all work domains. This style is more appropriate for those who have creative jobs or for those who have no (or less) office dress code. This way, it’s easier to add a bit of flair to the outfit – boots, leather, T-shirts, darker lips, nail-art, tennis shoes – your imagination is the limit. The tip is to simply remember you’re still going to work so mix and match appropriately.
